Areas to visit in the surroundings of Rantepao, Tana Toraja

The Toraja land is area of paddy fields, valleys and mountains, with houses scattered, often traditional sets. Some solid karticos in the surroundings of Rantepao.

There are certain tourist areas which charge admission per visit and where usually carry tourists who hire tour. The same things (tombs, caves, paddy fields, etc.) can be seen in other places and all rides can be for free, without a guide. We do not pay no entry.

Kete Kesu
Most tourist attractions are:

Kete Kesu: 10,000 IDR traditional village, site of funerals, graves. Looks almost everything from the outside.
kete kesu site funerals on toraja
Lemo:
20,000, IDR to get close to some tombs in a rock wall. They are from the entrance (by far). Set of houses. If you want to see tombs of about free, we recommend going to the West of Rantepao, where there is a wall with burials (see details below).
Londa, Tana Toraja Funeral
Londa, Tana Toraja Funeral
Londa: cave tombs, exterior wall with hanging coffins and a balcony with sculptures. An interesting place. Tourism, many guides with lamps. The cave is small and with a flashlight you manage yourself.

There is a control before the parking lot but no one asked us anything or we gained by passing with the bike, only offered us the lamp.

Recommendation if you have little time:

What we liked most: the northern area of Rantepao, the mountainous part on the slopes of Gunung Sesean, Banaue rice terraces, huge stones, tombs, views. A really nice landscape.

If you have little time it is what most recommend in the surrounding area.

Other tours, less in the surroundings of Rantepao:

- Bolu market:

Market of Bolu
Held every 6 days (ask at the hotel). 2 km to the East of Rantepao (Palopo road). You can go walking or bemo (Rp 2,500).
Interesting section of cattle, especially during the funeral. Hundreds of buffaloes and pigs. Many indigenous people. Vegetables, coffee, cocks... Very local.

- Walks:
In the surroundings of Rantepao there are interesting walks where you can disconnect from the city and see rural life. We let the data that we did:

- Gunung Singki and surroundings: West of Rantepao, crossing the River (there are two bridges). Singki is a rock formation that is a nice viewpoint in the area. Paved ladders. There is a signal indicator.
Parallel to the River to the North (beyond the first bridge), Rocky area with coffins and graves. Walks with traditional houses and paddy fields. No tourist, you're only.

- Siguntu Valley: West of Rantepao, another flat Valley with rice paddies overlooking the karst formations of the South and West. In Siguntu there are some interesting buildings of funerals (Kete Kesu type but without mounting and free). You reach a bridge which crosses the main road at the height of Alang Alang, where it is very easy to take any transport back to Rantepao (much traffic walking to taste).

Several options: keep walking until Londa to see the cave and back to Alang Alang. Continue to Valley (waterfall). etc.

-Bori Valley: Valley North of Rantepao, with rice fields, Nice. Many traditional houses and some sets of menhirs. You can do a circuit since there are two side roads and one that crosses paddy fields passing Parinding.
They are about 3 hours walking. You can take a tricycle to avoid walking through the area closest of Rantepao traffic (Rp 10,000).
